Appropriately Assertive Communication & Raising Concerns
Understand the concept of assertive communication & learn tools for raising concerns constructivel

Overview:
This short course helps teams to understand the term and appropriate behaviours of assertiveness. Course attendees will learn skills to feel confident communicating with all members of the practice team in ways that are likely to be received constructively.
We will specifically consider what this looks like when someone needs to raise a concern (for example in surgery) or give a viewpoint that may not be shared by another person(s). You will explore a helpful model for raising concerns and discuss how this can be applied dynamically, especially during challenging interactions.
Who is this course suitable for?
All members of veterinary teams, both clinical and non-clinical.
There is great benefit for a whole team having an understanding for this aspect of communication and to ensure that the concepts are embraced mutually across all levels of seniority.
Service classification:
Practices & teams, corporate organisations
Course length:
60 minutes (online)

All the talks I watched on Thursday were amazing, but I especially enjoyed the importance of non-clinical skills development in university and EMS. It was really refreshing and empowering to watch these incredibly inspirational women speak about their journeys to get to where they are now. It was truly eye-opening and awe-inspiring.

Wow, what a conversation starter!
The VetLed Civility training was very impactful really focusing in on how our behaviour towards each other affects patient care. VetLed presented theory and hard-hitting stories but also left our team with a system of tackling incivility practice-wide. This course fitted the bill, Thank You!

"The VetLed Leadership Programme has been an invaluable resource for our leadership team, helping us explore our individual strengths and challenges while aligning our leaders towards a common goal. From the first session, we noticed a difference in confidence with leadership decisions, using tools that prioritize people and foster a healthy and sustainable practice culture.
Their supportive and engaging course leaders provide real-life insight into veterinary practice and create an environment where the team feels encouraged to speak up in group sessions.
I would highly recommend VetLed for any team that understands the importance of their people and the team culture in creating success.”

“We worked with VetLed for an intensive, and brilliant, year. They created a bespoke programme for our practice after chatting through where we were and where we wanted to be. To say it was helpful is a massive understatement! They know what they are talking about and the observation days they conducted gave us massive insight into areas we had not seen we could improve on. I can't recommend their help and support enough!”

“In a busy multi-disciplinary referral hospital like ours, Human Factors plays a key role in team dynamics, staff wellbeing, and ultimately patient care. The support of VetLed has been invaluable in improving our knowledge in this area.
The VetLed team worked with colleagues from across the hospital over an extended period, using observations, frameworks, tools, and techniques that we can take forward on our Human Factors improvement journey.
We are grateful for the support of VetLed and would not hesitate to work with them again in the future.”

There is now an overall improvement in tolerance and respect towards each other, particularly where there had been previous issues.
