Client & Team Communication for Veterinary Graduates
Enhance client and team communication, build trust & navigate challenges with confidence.

Overview:
Strong communication is essential for patient care, client relationships, and professional confidence. This interactive course equips recent veterinary graduates with the skills to build trust, guide decision-making, and navigate challenging conversations with empathy and clarity.
Through discussion and real-world scenarios, we will explore the concept of taking a client-centred approach—focusing on building rapport, active listening, and delivering clear, jargon-free information. Graduates will learn techniques for managing difficult interactions, using appropriate assertiveness skills to raise concerns and resolving conflict through skilful empathy.
The course introduces some core practices from our compassionate communication training, which together with our framework for responding to incivility will equip attendees to de-escalate difficult situations, provide feedback where necessary and build relationships.
Who is this course suitable for?
Veterinarians who have less than 3 years’ experience in practice.
We can deliver this training as part of a graduate programme or as an offering for recently graduated vets within a team.
Service classification:
Practices & teams, corporate organisations
Course length:
1 day (in-person)

All the talks I watched on Thursday were amazing, but I especially enjoyed the importance of non-clinical skills development in university and EMS. It was really refreshing and empowering to watch these incredibly inspirational women speak about their journeys to get to where they are now. It was truly eye-opening and awe-inspiring.

'Dan's talk was fascinating and thought-provoking. It is so applicable to our work in the veterinary sector, both in terms of communication and Human Factors within our practices. Learning in these current times to be adaptive with all that is going on in the world around us is so important.'

"The VetLed Leadership Programme has been an invaluable resource for our leadership team, helping us explore our individual strengths and challenges while aligning our leaders towards a common goal. From the first session, we noticed a difference in confidence with leadership decisions, using tools that prioritize people and foster a healthy and sustainable practice culture.
Their supportive and engaging course leaders provide real-life insight into veterinary practice and create an environment where the team feels encouraged to speak up in group sessions.
I would highly recommend VetLed for any team that understands the importance of their people and the team culture in creating success.”

“We worked with VetLed for an intensive, and brilliant, year. They created a bespoke programme for our practice after chatting through where we were and where we wanted to be. To say it was helpful is a massive understatement! They know what they are talking about and the observation days they conducted gave us massive insight into areas we had not seen we could improve on. I can't recommend their help and support enough!”

“In a busy multi-disciplinary referral hospital like ours, Human Factors plays a key role in team dynamics, staff wellbeing, and ultimately patient care. The support of VetLed has been invaluable in improving our knowledge in this area.
The VetLed team worked with colleagues from across the hospital over an extended period, using observations, frameworks, tools, and techniques that we can take forward on our Human Factors improvement journey.
We are grateful for the support of VetLed and would not hesitate to work with them again in the future.”

FAQs
Whilst most of our training can be tailored for online delivery, this is a highly interactive workshop that includes team discussions and is best suited being delivered in-person.
We strongly encourage anyone who is willing to share a story or an experience that relates to this content to do so as it can add great depth to the day. Anything shared will remain confidential and we make this request to everyone at the start of the session. However, there is absolutely no expectation for anyone to share anything they are not comfortable discussing and we emphasise the need to feel safe in this regard at all of our workshops.
Whilst there are no prerequisites for this workshop, we recommend delivering a range of non-clinical training opportunities to recent graduates. Combining this session with our other graduate offerings provides a valuable basis at this critical time in their career. Our graduate workshops are designed to complement each other and it can significantly aid engagement and understanding when there is a flow from one workshop to another.
