Learn to manage stress, optimise performance & enhance patient care in high-pressure veterinary wo

Overview:

Thrive or survive? Many veterinary professionals chose to work in this field because they thrive in the high-pressure environment - often a function of multi-trauma, dyspnoeic or septic patients. When treating time-critical patients we need low to moderate stress to aid optimal performance, but overwhelming stress reduces cognitive function, leading us to survive rather than thrive.

How can you tip yourself, or your team, back into thriving and why is it important?

By maximising your cognitive bandwidth to make appropriate clinical decisions, to communicate effectively and be adaptable you increase patient safety, you develop stronger client relationships, and you improve your own wellbeing.

This course will give you the tools to recognise when and why your cognitive bandwidth decreases, how to recognize it in others and how to support individuals and teams to widen it again.

Who is this course suitable for?

Clinical members of veterinary teams.

This course is designed for vets and veterinary nurses who work in clinical roles, who have a particular interest in dealing with emergency and trauma cases.

Service classification:

Practices & teams, corporate organisations

Course length:

½ day (online or in-person)

“In a busy multi-disciplinary referral hospital like ours, Human Factors plays a key role in team dynamics, staff wellbeing, and ultimately patient care. The support of VetLed has been invaluable in improving our knowledge in this area.

The VetLed team worked with colleagues from across the hospital over an extended period, using observations, frameworks, tools, and techniques that we can take forward on our Human Factors improvement journey.

We are grateful for the support of VetLed and would not hesitate to work with them again in the future.”

“Training and understanding of how the brain works has encouraged people to be braver and speak out. Staff understand it is better to talk to each other rather than harbour resentment. There is now an overall improvement in tolerance and respect towards each other, particularly where there had been previous issues. People are more confident to suggest ideas and more willing to listen.”
