Bespoke Consultation
Expert Human Factors consultations to improve veterinary practice systems, safety and design.

Overview:
Sometimes it is hard to know where to begin. A bespoke consultation with our team can be the answer in a range of scenarios!
- A bespoke consultation with our expert team helps you identify key challenges, understand the big picture of your workplace and decide upon first steps for improvement.
We will help you understand the relationship between your people and their working environment. Challenges seen in veterinary practices often arise due to a mismatch between these areas.
Human Factors is often described as an understanding of ‘making it easy to do the right thing’ - a large part of which is the design of your processes and environment. Let us guide you in how to design for success!
- Following a practice observation day, some areas of recommendation may be new to you. A bespoke consultation can help you understand and integrate our recommendations smoothly.
Topics often discussed at these consultations are communication and patient safety tools such as clinical checklists, patient handovers, communication structures, medication safety processes and the use of quality improvement methodologies such as clinical audits.
- A bespoke consultation session is often helpful for leaders after attending one of our team workshops, eg Civility Saves Lives Programme. Leaders ask us “how do I make this ‘stick’?”. Let us help you sustain your team’s enthusiasm for the long run!
Who is this suitable for?
Our consultations are usually with individuals or small groups. They are suitable for anyone leading or developing the areas being discussed. This could be managers or those who have chosen to champion a particular area of improvement.
Service classification:

Wow, what a conversation starter!
The VetLed Civility training was very impactful really focusing in on how our behaviour towards each other affects patient care. VetLed presented theory and hard-hitting stories but also left our team with a system of tackling incivility practice-wide. This course fitted the bill, Thank You!

'Dan's talk was fascinating and thought-provoking. It is so applicable to our work in the veterinary sector, both in terms of communication and Human Factors within our practices. Learning in these current times to be adaptive with all that is going on in the world around us is so important.'

“We worked with VetLed for an intensive, and brilliant, year. They created a bespoke programme for our practice after chatting through where we were and where we wanted to be. To say it was helpful is a massive understatement! They know what they are talking about and the observation days they conducted gave us massive insight into areas we had not seen we could improve on. I can't recommend their help and support enough!”

“In a busy multi-disciplinary referral hospital like ours, Human Factors plays a key role in team dynamics, staff wellbeing, and ultimately patient care. The support of VetLed has been invaluable in improving our knowledge in this area.
The VetLed team worked with colleagues from across the hospital over an extended period, using observations, frameworks, tools, and techniques that we can take forward on our Human Factors improvement journey.
We are grateful for the support of VetLed and would not hesitate to work with them again in the future.”

FAQs
There is no criteria for whether further consultation is necessary or appropriate. When we follow-up after training or an observation, it sometimes becomes clear from the conversation that further support is required. In this case we would offer a bespoke consultation. Sometimes it is clear during a workshop/observation that a particular area (for example, handover structures) could benefit from development. We will often share some guidance or templates, and if required, arrange a bespoke consultation in the following weeks to provide additional guidance, review progress and plan next steps.
